White Wednesday Make Over

For White Wednesday, I wanted to show you a sweetie we came across three weeks ago. I wish I had taken "before" pics of this old nightstand. She had a dark brown finish and was in need of an update. Upon closer inspection, my hubby and I saw the pretty detailing of this vintage nightstand. Very heavy solid wood with beautiful dove-tailed drawers. We took it home where it received a much needed white makeover. (pardon my basement background, but that's where my pieces usually get their work over)
See inside the top drawer... the Link Taylor logo? Blurry pic I know!
Hubby wire- brushed the hardware, which brought it back to it's lovely original state.
What I really love about this piece is it's lines and detail! Just look at the curve of each drawer. The legs are very graceful and the front edges of the piece have design running up the length of it which you can see in the pics. Overall, I think it has a french look to it. After much TLC and shabby white paint, I've placed this beauty in my space at WCS for someone else to enjoy.
Hope you've enjoyed my White Wednesday Makeover! I'm linking up with Kathleen at Faded Charm. Be sure to pop in and say hello to her!

Show & Tell Your Best Summer Bargains

I thought it would be fun to show some of the best bargains/deals/thrifty steals we got this summer, so I hope all you ladies will join in with me. First, I've been dying to show you an incredible deal I got early this summer at an inside sale at a local senior center. A beautiful set of vintage Homer Laughlin Eggshell Georgian Wayside Pink dinnerware! And I do mean set! Dinner plates... bowls...salad plates...
Teacups...saucers

And even the sugar bowl...

...and creamer!!

When I saw this set, I asked the folks how much it was going for and they said...are you ready for this?

$8.00 total!! My heart started pounding and as you can well imagine, I couldn't get the set into the boxes fast enough as there were so many folks streaming in and milling about. This is definitely a "keeper" for me and will be lovely to put out on holidays and special occasion, don't you think?
Next, although this is not vintage and looks to be maybe from Home Goods, I couldn't resist this sweet metal washstand with bowl. I picked it up at an estate sale for the merry tune of $5.00. The bowl was later filled with petunias and resides on my porch.

Just look at this lovely green, heavy metal tea cart with glass shelves. It was tagged for $4.00 at a yard sale, and when the man running the sale saw me looking it over, he said "Do you want it for $3.00?" How fast do you think it took me to scoop that baby up???
This is a lovely vintage brass, french look chandelier that I scored for $10.00 at a yard sale last weekend.

It will need to be rewired, but lucky for me I have an electrician in the family.
This chandelier is extremely heavy, and what makes it so unique is the detailing, plus it has cream colored accents mixed in with brass...

See....here....

Once this is safely rewired, I'm thinking it will hang in my entryway, where my shabby little office is.

Lastly, I've been working on a key fetish, and I was thrilled to find these three lovely keys over the summer.
The largest one was $4.00, the one in the middle is actually one of a set of 3 that I got for $1.00. They were vintage gold Syroco, but hubby painted them white for me. The last key is extremely heavy iron, and was grabbed for $3.00.
These are just a few of the treasures I found this Summer at way low prices! So ladies, do a little "Show and Tell" with me and share your best Summer bargains with the rest of us.

Until next time ~ Be blessed!

Seasons of Change

Oh my! It seems sooo long since my last post. Lot's of changes going on for me. For one, have you noticed my new blog face lift? The lovely Karen Valentine over at Valentine Designs has created a lovely new header (from pics I sent) and also adorable sidebar tags. Her prices are extremely reasonable and she is a doll to work with! If you want to add a little pizazz to your blog, contact her. You'll be glad you did.

Other changes for me ~ After much prayer and thought, I gave my notice at my secretarial job. I've decided to follow my passions and dreams and try to make more of a go of my love for buying & selling home decor/accessories. I have rented space in a local shop, and this will give me more time to put into that...treasure hunting, creating, restoring, etc. I also hope to open an Etsy shop in the near future. I'm excited to begin this new venture in my life and this will also allow a little more freedom and simplicity in my schedule. I've heard it said “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I know full well that God gives us our passions and dreams for a reason, and I LOVE being a dealer, so I feel as though I'm stepping into this new season of my life with His blessing.

I may also pick up a few hours a week at a local retail shop, just to help with a little extra jingle in my pocket, but it will be very part time.
So here goes.... !!! I'd love to hear your thoughts & comments and will eagerly read them.

Blessings and Hugs to each one of you!
Karen

Sweet White Wednesday

Well, I have to be honest ladies. As I was thinking about what I had to share for White Wednesday this week, I wondered aloud if my legs would count as an entry? ... (sunless as they are these days) Don't worry though...I'll spare you the details. :o)

So all silliness aside, here's a little corner vignette on my porch. It's always changing out there...nothing stays in one spot for long. In the perfect shade of white we have a sweet vintage shutter, old wicker table, and shabby birdcage.

Here's a cute treasure I picked up last week. A very large wicker type basket on wheels. Thought this would be just great filled with flowers, towels in a bath, laundry, toys...you name it. I brought it to the shop on Sunday evening for someone else to enjoy.

Lastly, what can rival vintage white mismatched pitchers and bowls? They just seem to be so classic and pretty, don't you think? I also love to collect small white ironstone pitchers, but I couldn't get to them since they are buried while waiting for our new kitchen to begin. (I'll be sure to post before and after pics) Until later girls...Happy White Wednesday. Link up with the lovely Kathleen over at Faded Charm for some awe inspiring treasures!
